I have a blog... about food! So, not to waste any time on any petty subject matter, let's get right to it!
Thursday night my sister Angela came into town from college (about 90 minutes away) so I could drop her off at the airport the next morning. She started the culinary program this fall, and is loving learning everything about food, the prepping, etc. We were both hungry once I got done with work; since she now has a deeper appreciation for dining, I decided to take her to Savor Cafe.
Savor is a locally owned restaurant that started off as a catering only company. The manager explained to us that people would stick their heads in the door when they were preparing for catering events, and ask what time they opened. Therefore the interest was peaked, and they decided to open a dine-in restaurant.
Savor prides themselves in being a sustainably run kitchen. They buy all their menu items locally, and grow all of their own herbs. (You can see the bartender run outside to grab mint for your mojito!) Most importantly, everything on their menu is made fresh, resulting in the favorite dishes selling out nightly!
I quickly opted for the Pan-fried Chicken Cutlet, topped with pimento cheese and bacon. It's served with roasted root vegetables and drunken collards. Pretty much, it was everything you could ask for in a perfect southern homestyle meal. Although I am not ashamed to say I have no problem finishing off my plate normally, I actually took half of this home. It was just as good for lunch the next day :)
Angela chose the Sweet Chili-glazed Salmon,
served with horseradish mashed potatoes and sauteed vegetables. That was what I ordered my first time at Savor, and she agreed that it was a fantastic dish. As you can see, it was so good that I couldn't even get a picture before she ate half of it!
After our entrees, she and I caved in and ordered a piece of their Mile High Peanut Butter Pie. I don't have a picture of this because, well, we ate it like vultures. I would definitely tell you to save room for one of their desserts.
Savor is on my top 5 list of dining experiences in Charlotte, and I love being able to support a local business while enjoying some pretty darn good food!
Until I'm hungry again...
Lisa Burris and the Pearsons are the owners of Savor Cafe. Lisa was my boss back when I was a Teaching Assistant at Johnson & Wales in Charleston. And Shane Pearson was one of my culinary instructors. I love them dearly and also love their place very much. Their food is delicious, I agree!
ReplyDeleteThanks for making me hungry...like I needed it!
